Leading ‘Titleist Performance Institute’ medical and fitness professional in Australasia
About Dr. Andrew Timbs
Who am I?
It’s normal for doctors to know everything about you so we can provide the best quality care possible, but I want to make sure it goes both ways. I want to let you know who I am, so you can feel completely comfortable with me.
My name is Dr. Andrew Timbs, I was born and grew up in Adelaide. I have five kids, two girls aged 18 and 10 and three boys aged 6, 4 and 3, and an amazing partner Sonia.
I am a second generation chiropractor and my father is still practicing after 44 years. He is one of my greatest mentors and he was also one of the founders of Wellness Chiropractic, which was the largest group of chiropractic practices in Australia.
After high school I went to the United States on a golf scholarship. I always wanted to get my chiropractic degree, so I was completing my pre-chiropractic studies while playing college golf.
I returned to Macquarie University in Sydney to complete my chiropractic degree. I then returned to Adelaide to practice. After working in other practices for a year, I went into the family practice and I owned it from 2009 to 2016.
I have always been very passionate about golf and I went on to do post-graduate studies and have become the highest certified Titleist Performance Institute medical and fitness professional in Australasia.
We moved the family up to the Sunshine Coast at the start of 2016 and I worked for a great friend of mine up in Gympie. We purchased a house in Peregian Springs at the end of 2016 and it was a perfect fit to purchase this practice in Peregian Beach. We love the area and the community. Our oldest boy is in Prep at St. Andrew’s and the rest will be following!
I hope this gives you just a little information about who I am and I look forward to meeting you too.
What we do at Purity Chiropractic
I am one of only a handful of chiropractors in Australia that specialize in Upper Cervical Specific Care. This care is very gentle and you will not have the crack that you may typically associate with chiropractic care.
Chiropractic is based on three universal premises:
- The human body is a self-healing mechanism
If you cut your finger, it heals. If you cut the finger of a corpse, it does not. It is not the doctor who heals, it is the life energy within YOU that heals.
- The Nervous System – the brain and the spinal cord – is the master system of the body
Every dimension of the human experience is processed through the nervous system. Every thought, emotion, perception, hormone, chemical, motor function, pain sensation, literally EVERYTHING. Nothing happens or dysfunctions in your body without the nervous system being involved.
- If there is interference to the nervous system, it affects the ability of your body to function properly.
Not only can interference effect your physical health but, more importantly, it distorts your perception of what is going on in the world and compromises your ability to respond appropriately. Your brain is primarily a responsive organ, it does not generate all the information the body needs and tells it what to do. The brain only responds to the information that it is given by the nervous system. If you are subluxated and have garbage going into the brain, you can only get garbage coming out. Posture, for example, is a brain dysfunction because of the bad information the brain is being given.
The purpose of chiropractic is to locate and correct the cause of the interference.
Because the human body heals itself, all it requires is the time and opportunity to do so.
It is essential to understand that chiropractic is not a fix, treatment or cure for any symptoms, condition or disease. As we alluded to previously, it is the power of your body that heals. We remove the interference to allow that power to do what it does best.
We do expect positive changes within a reasonable period of time, but your body heals in priority. The most important thing to you is not always the most important to the body. Have faith that your body knows what it is doing.
We will always give you our best recommendations but your care is always up to you. We will always take things one step at a time at a pace you are comfortable with.
